Professor Rachid Yazami, born in Fez in 1953, is a world-renowned physicochemist and inventor, recognized as one of the pioneers of the lithium-ion battery. He discovered the reversible graphite anode in 1979–1980, a cornerstone of billions of devices today.

A graduate of the Grenoble Institute of Technology (INPG) with a PhD in Electrochemistry, he led research at CNRS, collaborated with NASA at Caltech, and founded innovative companies in California and Singapore, developing next-generation battery technologies, including fluoride-ion systems and ultra-fast charging solutions.

Professor Yazami is the author of over 250 publications and holds more than 150 patents, with numerous distinctions including the Draper Prize, Royal Medal of Morocco, France’s Legion of Honour, Takreem Award, Dubai Scientific Merit Award, and VinFuture Prize.

On the Foundation’s Executive Committee, he brings expertise in technological innovation, high-impact R&D, and international influence, advancing sustainable energy and scientific excellence.
